With recent publications and the launch of the new OPS Type foundry website, this lecture comes at an especially opportune moment.—Jan Egbers is an independent designer based in Amsterdam, specialised in typography and type design. They have previously worked for documenta, the Sandberg Instituut, the Canadian Centre for Architecture and the International Architecture Biennial Rotterdam, among others. They develop and release retail fonts with OPS TYPE and are involved as a designer and editor with Spookstad, a radical publishing collective that emerged out of Amsterdam’s squatting movement.—This talk will delve into two different sides of Jan’s practice: designing custom type for institutions and retail fonts with OPS TYPE on the one hand, making books about radical action with Spookstad on the other.
